SERVICE-LEARNING PROJECT

Student Facilitator and Volunteer

This service-learning project assigns my team and me to work with primary school children in the Student Care Center.

​

We conducted 3 sessions using behavioural modification techniques based on impulse control as we noticed that they get distracted often and some children do exhibit impulsive behaviours.

​

Lastly, we ensure that they understand the messages behind the activities and put them to good use.

WHAT I DID

  • Identified the disruptive behaviours in the Student Care Centre, like impulse control

  • Planned and created specific yet fun and impactful activities to target them. 

  • Proposed activities and research for sessions and the project

  • Schedule activities and sessions with children

  • Interact with ADHD children and learn about the difficulties they have in the classroom.

  • Researched on ADHD symptoms and characteristics

WHAT I LEARNT

  • How to supervise and handle children in a classroom setting. For example, disciplining them when they get mischievous. 

  • How to organise and prepare activities for children with and without ADHD

  • What to do when symptoms of ADHD are shown

  • How to integrate ways to focus into fun activities that children can learn from 

  • How to observe and identify target behaviours and how to modify it
